Spiritual Milestone: Child Dedication

Posted by Robert Sherrill on

All four of my children were dedicated and I can still remember each of those special moments. Family, friends and the church all gathered around to witness an awesome celebration of life. At Gateway, a Child Dedication is recognized as a spiritual milestone for both the child along with their Mom and Dad. In a ceremony offered to our members and regular attenders, Christian parents make a commitment before God and the church family to continue to grow in their personal faith, to be the spiritual leaders in their child’s life, and to raise that child according to God’s Word and God’s ways

Parents who dedicate their child are making a promise to God to do everything within their power to raise their child in a godly manner, and to pray fully until he or she makes their own decision to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Parents are reminded in Deuteronomy 6:5-7 that we are to be the spiritual leaders in our child’s life.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Sunday mornings at church provide weekly instruction, but parents are to be the main spiritual influence in their children’s lives seizing teachable moments every day.

It's our desire in our ministry to parents, to pull alongside our moms and dads, providing them with encouragement, support and resources as they strive to be the spiritual leaders within their homes. Take a look at our Parent Pathway for age-specific resources to help you lead your child to become more and more like Jesus!

We have some exciting changes coming to our Child Dedication Celebrations. We'll notify parents once you are able to register for the next celebration.
